Optional scientific activity

Additional activities during the Euroconference

A visit to the HPT lab of the University of Utrecht

Visit to the High Pressure and Temperature (HPT) lab of Utrecht University, which is run by prof. De Bresser, Dr. Niemeijer and Dr. Hangx. The conference center is only a couple of kilometers away from the well know HPT lab of Utrecht university.

They have kindly agreed to show anyone who is interested around the laboratory during the lunchbreaks of Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. We will organise transport to their laboratory for those who are interested, and Hans, André and Suzanne and/or their crew will organize a tour. There will be a maximum of 15 visitors per tour due to safety concerns.

We collect in front of the conference venue 15 min after the talks end for necessary bio-breaks and grabbing a sandwich at the restaurant. The first 15 arrivals at the meeting point will be taken to Utrecht.

Optional social activities

Our conference venue is beautifully located in the middle of a forest. Perfect for a walk, spotting some wildlife and/or exercising. During the conference we therefore plan to organise some additional activities which are open for you to participate.

  1. Monday: An evening PubQuiz
  2. An early morning walk in the forest under the expert guidance of a forester.
  3. A morning run in the forest

Euroconference 2023 Pubquiz

The TU Delft Applied Geophysics group is well known in Delft for their pub quizzes. We organise them regularly in Delft and especially in corona times these pub quizzes (then held online) were a great success to keep connected to each other. After dinner, 20h30 pm, on Monday night we will organise a Euroconference pubquiz in the bar of the conference center. We will form teams of 6 participants (on a voluntary basis of course) and compete against each on questions related to movies, music, geography, history etc. Let's see which team is best!

Early morning excursion with the forester

We are organising an early morning walk with the guidance of a local forester. We may see some wildlife (deer, birds) and certainly we will learn a lot about the plants, animals and mushrooms that grow in the forest. This early morning excursion will be organised on Wednesday before the start of the daily sessions. We have space for at maximum 35 participants, first come, first serve. Exact timing and meeting point to be determined closer to the date, keep an eye on your email! Bring normal walking shoes and a rainproof and warm jacket, because there is the possibility of typical Dutch autumn weather. If you prefer to sleep in, that is perfectly fine as well.

Early morning run

On Wednesday morning Auke is organising an early morning run with all who is interested. There is an ~5 km existing track around the conference venue which is perfect and beautiful for running. Let's meet 7h30 am in the lobby with our running gear on for leisurely run. We will go at a slow pace so that all of us, irrespective of their level, can join the run and have fun. More experienced runners are of course most welcome too. We are sure they can team up by themselves and form a second group. We are sure they can team up by themselves and form a second group. We are looking forward to a fun morning run to get energised for the Wednesday sessions. Again, sleeping in perfect as well.
